Associate General Counsel – Employment Law
Yahoo! Inc. is recruiting an Associate General Counsel for the Employment Law team. The Associate General Counsel – Employment provides legal advice and counsel to management and all levels of Human Resources professionals on a variety of U.S. and international employment law issues.
Core Responsibilities:
• Provide advice and counsel to management and Human Resource professionals on a broad range of employment issues including: recruiting; hiring; employee relations; discipline and terminations; layoffs; internal investigations ; employment issues related to mergers and acquisitions; leaves of absence; wage and hour compliance; contingent worker issues; separation agreements; benefits issues; workers' compensation; and compliance with applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations such as ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, etc.
• Manage a team of experienced employment attorneys and a paralegal.
• Advise on employment-related risks and identify practical business solutions for avoiding and/or reducing legal risk.
• Manage employment litigation and outside counsel, including coordinating and directing case strategy, discovery, drafting and editing briefs, interviewing and preparing witnesses and negotiations.
• Represent Yahoo! at the administrative agency level including preparing and responding to EEOC inquiries, US DOL investigations, and other federal or state governmental agency requests.
• Stay abreast of new employment and labor laws and trends and report on them to HR and management, as appropriate. Conduct training programs on company policies and new developments in the law.
• Establish best practices and templates for use in employment related matters.
• Support HR in the development and maintenance of affirmative action plans and programs, compensation analyses and other employment law aspects of federal government contractor compliance.
• Coordinate with offices outside the US on global employment issues.
Requirements/Qualifications
• JD degree from top law school and membership in at least one state bar in the U.S. (California preferred).
• Minimum of 12+ years relevant employment and labor law experience, including employment counseling and litigation.
• Experience practicing employment law at both a law firm and in-house, preferably at a public technology company.
• Local candidates preferred.
• Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task, prioritize and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment and to stay calm under pressure.
• Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work well independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization (executive management, HR, business units, etc.) and to gain the trust and confidence of others.
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking.
