Job Description:
As the Legal Director, U.S. Compliance and Security, you will be responsible for advising the company on legal obligations related to its response to requests for user data from federal and state government agencies and private third parties, as well as supporting the development and implementation of global law enforcement policies, procedures, and training programs. The Legal Director, U.S. Compliance and Security will also assist with the implementation of policies and procedures designed to protect the security of user and corporate data in order to ensure that such data is managed in a manner consistent with the company’s expectations and legal obligations. This attorney will liaise directly with the “Paranoids” security engineering team, a wide-range of product engineers and managers, Yahoo!’s legal, finance and corporate communications teams, and third party partners and vendors.

Job Responsibilities:
- Advising the U.S. Law Enforcement Compliance team on criminal, civil and national security compliance requirements, and in appropriate responses to other requests for user data
- Conducting internal training on U.S. law enforcement policies for team members and for external law enforcement groups.
- Advising business units regarding compliance with U.S. laws regarding access and disclosure of user data.
- Working cooperatively with other legal department, security and policy teams to identify and mitigate risks to user data, Yahoo! system security and/or user safety, which includes contributing input to data disclosure policies, and advising on operation of tools accessing user data.
- Managing negotiation of security-related obligations contained in contracts between third-parties and Yahoo! for services provided to Yahoo! or its U.S.-based users. Negotiation will include coordination with members of the Paranoid team, other Yahoo! legal team members, and Yahoo!’s business units.
- Coordinate Yahoo!’s monitoring of and compliance with national and state data security laws, regulations and other requirements related to secure handling of personally identifiable information and other sensitive information, including breach notification obligations and/or reporting requirements.
- Assist in responding to security incidents, including by helping to assess the severity of incidents, developing a response and remediation strategy, and coordinating external and internal communications, among other duties.
- Provide extensive and detailed security training to members of Yahoo’s security personnel, legal department and other employee groups, as necessary.
- Assist with the operation and auditing of internal security tools used to manage and protect user data.
- Assist with management of internal and external security auditing obligations.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Member in good standing of a U.S. bar association
- Approximately 5 years relevant experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and legal experience in areas of ECPA compliance and/or network and data security
- Experience performing legal analyses involving complex technical and product issues, and developing creative solutions to achieve desirable outcomes
- Ability to maintain high ethical standards and professional integrity at all times
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex information and legal analyses to attorneys and laypersons

Preferable Job Qualifications:
- Transactional negotiation and/or litigation experience is a plus
- Strong communications skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Excels at interfacing and gaining the respect of stakeholders and external third parties
- Demonstrated team player, who has had success both leading and efficiently participating in cross-functional teams and/or matrix managed projects
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment, and make sound decisions under tight deadlines
- Sense of humor
