Description
Responsible for fact gathering and legal research to provide legal assistance and advice in matters related to labor and employment law. Reviewing and drafting legal documents. Negotiating with outside parties. Representing the Legal perspective on company projects related to labor and employment law, and manage outside counsel and litigation related to these areas.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Independently perform and oversee high-level, sophisticated legal work, often involving complex fact gathering, research, negotiations and drafting.
Assist in creating and executing Department and enterprise-wide policies.
Provide legal, employment law-related training to department associates and other Company functions.
Provide expert legal assistance and employment law advice to other functions.
Negotiate with vendors and outside parties.
Manage labor and employment litigation, and oversee and manage outside counsel in this area.
Specialized Duties
Complete complex projects and litigation management will involve specialized knowledge in the area of wage and hour laws and the California Labor Code and other various state employment laws.
Will be required to represent the company at mediations and fact finding conferences.
Will also be required to participate in the interdepartmental coordination of significant corporate initiatives.
Job Requirements
J.D. degree
Membership in good standing in appropriate state bar and house counsel status if necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated by prior success.
Strong project management and leadership skills.
Ability to deal effectively with personnel in and outside the Company and work collaboratively in a team environment.
8-12+ years’ legal experience in the areas of labor and employment law is required
Demonstrated experience with wage and hour issues, including the California Labor Code, preferred
Experience with unions and union issues preferred
In house experience preferred
Travel is required for this position (approximately 25-30% of job)
Relocation not available
