BRIEN T. O'CONNOR is a partner in the Boston office of Ropes & Gray LLP. He is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. After graduating from law school in 1985, Brien clerked for Chief Judge Andrew A. Caffrey of the U.S. District Court in Boston and then spent two and one-half years in Ropes & Gray's Litigation department. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Boston from 1989 to 1999, the final three years as Chief of the Public Corruption and Special Prosecutions Unit of the U.S. Attorney's Office. Brien is an accomplished trial lawyer who has handled some of the most significant corporate criminal and False Claims Act cases in the country. He focuses his practice on representing corporations and individuals in government enforcement investigations and prosecutions, and defending clients against civil False Claims Act and administrative actions brought by the government. He also has negotiated Corporate Integrity Agreements and advised numerous Life Sciences clients on specific compliance issues and their compliance programs. Brien is a member of Ropes & Gray’s policy committee and former co-head of the firm’s government enforcement practice group. He frequently presents on white collar crime issues and related subjects, and has served as co-chair of the ABA’s White Collar Crime Committee for the Northeast Region.
