THOMAS N. VANDERFORD JR. is the Associate General Counsel and Executive Director of Litigation for Hyundai Motor America. Mr. Vanderford joined Hyundai in 1992 and oversees Hyundai’s product litigation throughout the United States. He has been admitted pro hac vice for trials in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington. He advises Hyundai engineers throughout the world on product safety, product liability prevention and regulatory compliance. Mr. Vanderford's professional activities have included leadership positions with the ABA Litigation Section, including vice-chair of the ABA's Product Liability Committee. He is a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council (PLAC) (Member, Board of Directors, 2010-2014), Defense Research Institute (DRI), Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of American Tort Reform Association ("ATRA"). He is also a member of the Liability Reform Advisory Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's National Chamber Litigation Center ("NCLC"). Prior to joining Hyundai, Mr. Vanderford was with Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro (now “Pillsbury Winthrop”), where he defended manufacturers in many types of product liability actions, including chemical, drug, firearm, tobacco and automotive cases. He obtained his undergraduate degree from UCLA in 1982. He graduated cum laude from Loyola Law School in 1985.
