THE HONORABLE JANIS GRAHAM JACK is a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas. She was born in Los Angeles, California on May 28, 1946, and graduated from Amon Carter High School, Fort Worth, Texas in 1964. She received a Registered Nursing diploma in 1969 from St. Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1974 from the University of Baltimore. She received a Juris Doctor degree in 1981 from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, graduating summa cum laude (second in her class). She is a member of the Order of the Lytae (Law School Honor Society). While in law school she received four American Jurisprudence awards and in 1981 received the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement (Sam Houston Chapter). Judge Jack was a solo practitioner in Corpus Christi from 1981 until her appointment as a United States District Judge in March, 1994. Judge Jack is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, Federal Judges Association, Fifth Circuit District Judges Association, , National Association of Women Judges, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, Judicial Member of The Maritime Law Association of the United States, a Texas Bar Foundation Fellow, and The Philosophical Society of Texas, and has previously served on the Judicial Conference Committee on Information Technology. She was the 1998 South Texas College of Law Distinguished Alumna of the Year and the 2008 recipient of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City 2008 Charles Evans Whittaker Award.
