STEVEN BAUMAN is currently a Senior Vice President with Zurich Global Corporate in North America (GCiNA), located in the New York office. He is Head of Captive Services for Zurich's GCiNA division. His responsibility is to help customers with captive insurers creatively and seamlessly integrate their captives into their insurance strategies. Mr. Bauman has more than 25 years of experience in corporate insurance and captive services on both the broker and company sides of the business, working as a senior vice president of AON's Captive Services Group. Prior to AON, he was vice president-NY office manager and east coast marketing manager for XL Insurance Company (formally XL Winterthur International) from 1999 to the end of 2004. From 1993 to1999, Mr. Bauman worked at MARSH-NY USA where he was a senior vice president in the Global Services Group division. He began his career in 1987 at American Risk Management (ARM), which then was part of The Reiss Organization and then sold to Swiss Re. Mr. Fred Reiss and company are widely credited with popularizing the captive insurance company concept. In the course of his career, Mr. Bauman has coordinated business in more than 60 countries and has personally traveled to more than 35 countries spanning six continents. His primary areas of expertise are in corporate property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, with an emphasis on captive programs for large national and multinational corporations. Such captive programs integrate the use of various loss retention mechanisms, risk transfer and reinsurance products for a multitude of product lines, including but not limited to: workers' compensation; general & product liability; automobile liability; property; marine; terrorism; professional liability, weather and employee benefits. He is an active member in several professional organizations including Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) New York Chapter, Captive Insurance Council of the District of Columbia (CIC-DC), Delaware Captive Insurance Association and the Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA), where he is a member of the Board of Directors and a member of the Legislative and Conference Committees. He often volunteers his professional expertise to assist the advancement of the industry, including his current work as a member of the Board of Directors for the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) and his work with several U.S. state governments on issues related to their captive insurance company domiciles.
