THE HONORABLE NORA BARRY FISCHER has served as a District Judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania since April of 2007. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s College and Notre Dame Law School. Prior to being appointed to the Bench, she engaged in private practice for thirty years, including as a partner at the law firms of Meyer Darragh Buckler Bebenek & Eck and Pietragallo Bosick & Gordon. In private practice she regularly represented doctors and hospitals in medical malpractice claims and related disputes. For the Pennsylvania Bar Association, she was tri-chair of a Task Force on Medical Care Delivery in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Judge Fischer is a designated patent judge under the Patent Pilot Program. In addition to her judicial duties, she has been actively involved in Court administration, serving as the Chair for several court committees such as the Case Management/Alternative Dispute Resolution; Community Outreach; and, E-Discovery Special Master. Recently, she presided over a case where a medical doctor sued a hospital that recruited him asserting various causes of action. See Langenberg v. Warren General Hospital, No. 1:12-175, 2013 WL 6147576 (W.D. Pa. Nov. 22, 2013).
