Michael Gordon is Partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.  Mr. Gordon serves as chair of the firm's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Practice and focuses on consumer-related enforcement and regulation, government litigation, and congressional investigations. Mr. Gordon has more than a decade of experience in government and public service, holding a range of senior advisor and counsel positions at the CFPB, US Department of the Treasury and the US House of Representatives.  Mr. Gordon joined WilmerHale after spending four years in senior positions at the CFPB, helping to design, build and set priorities for the CFPB since its inception. As senior counselor to the director for three years, he provided strategic advice to the director and senior CFPB officials on a wide range of legal and policy questions, including significant enforcement activity. Mr. Gordon also served as deputy general counsel at the CFPB from 2011-2012 and was a member of the CFPB implementation team after it was established by the Treasury Department in 2010.  Before joining the CFPB, Mr. Gordon was counselor to the general counsel of the US Department of the Treasury, where he advised the general counsel and senior Treasury officials on a variety of legal and policy matters. He also served as the chief investigative counsel for the House Energy and Commerce Committee and senior investigative counsel on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where he led investigations into the financial crisis, the private health insurance industry, government contracting practices, and the approval by the FDA of new drugs and medical devices.  Mr. Gordon began his legal career in 1998 as an associate and counsel at WilmerHale, where he worked on government enforcement matters and white collar criminal defense, internal corporate investigations, and complex civil litigation.
