Michael J. Steiner has served as Chair of Severson & Werson’s Financial Services Practice Group. For more than 30 years he has represented consumer lenders in state and federal courts in California and elsewhere. He specializes in defending mortgage lenders in consumer class action and unfair competition cases. During the past 20 years, he has defended mortgage lenders in more than 100 class action lawsuits arising from a broad spectrum of mortgage loan origination, servicing and payoff issues, including RESPA, TILA, and FCRA claims, loan origination fees, payoff fees, lien releases, foreclosure outsourcing, interest calculation, lender placed insurance, yield spread premiums, and loan modifications. He has extensive experience in the defense and management of individual claims arising from mortgage loan origination, servicing and default. Mr. Steiner speaks frequently on consumer class actions and other litigation involving mortgage lenders He received his JD from Stanford Law School in 1983 and BA in English from Grinnell College in 1979.
