THOMAS HEFFERON is a partner in Goodwin Procter’s Litigation Department, resident in the Washington, D.C. office, and co-chair of the firm’s Financial Industry Practice. He specializes in the defense of financial institutions in the consumer financial services industry, including companies involved in mortgage lending and servicing, debt collection, automobile lending, and credit cards. These cases typically are class actions or multidistrict proceedings brought under federal or state statutes or the common law, filed in courts throughout the country. Mr. Hefferon also represents a number of different financial institutions in enforcement matters before federal and state administrative agencies, including the CFPB, Department of Justice, FTC, FDIC, HUD, and state civil rights, consumer protection, and licensing authorities, and matters involving various federal officials and state Attorneys General. Mr. Hefferon presented oral argument in the United States Supreme Court in Freeman v. Quicken Loans Inc., a RESPA class action in which his client, Quicken Loans, prevailed in a unanimous opinion.
