THE HONORABLE DANIEL E. KNOWLES, III serves as U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Judge Knowles earned an undergraduate degree and a J.D. from Louisiana State University, 1975 and 1978 respectively.  Following law school, he served as law clerk to the Honorable John C. Boutall, Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and then to the Honorable Patrick E. Carr, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.  In 1982, he joined the law firm of Burke & Mayer where he practiced Admiralty and Maritime Law for twenty years.  Judge Knowles served as Judge Ad Hoc, First Parish Court, Parish of Jefferson for many years.  He is also certified as a mediator by the Attorney-Mediators Institute.  Judge Knowles has held numerous positions, including President, with the Mariners Club of the Port of New Orleans.  Currently, he is a faculty member for the Louisiana State University Trial Advocacy Training Program and he serves on the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Bar Liaison Committee for the Federal Bench.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association, New Orleans Chapter.  Judge Knowles is a frequent speaker for various industry and legal groups including Mariners Club of the Port of New Orleans, the Louisiana State Bar Association, St. Paul Insurance Claim Conference and Louisiana State University and Loyola University.
