HON. DAVID HITTNER has served as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas since 1986.  He is a graduate of New York University and New York University School of Law and is a member of the Texas and New York bars. Following law school, he entered the United States Army where he served as an Infantry Captain and Paratrooper. Following military service, he practiced as a trial attorney in Houston for 13 years, and in 1978, he was appointed, and subsequently twice elected, to the 133rd Judicial District Court of Texas.  In 1986 he was nominated as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas and was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate.  He also sat, by designation, on the United States Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Southern District of New York and the District of Arizona.  Among Judge Hittner’s many recognitions are the Samuel E. Gates Award of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the highest national recognition for the improvement of the litigation process in the United States and the Presidents’ Award of the State Bar of Texas as the Outstanding Lawyer in Texas and is a member of the American Law Institute.  He is the author of a three volume book on federal civil practice and procedure, and has published over 90 legal articles, including 14 law review articles.
