Director of Litigation

GENESSA STOUT is Director of Litigation at PayPal in the Bay Area. At the end of 2015 she moved to San Francisco to begin working for PayPal and left Washington D.C. and her role as an enforcement attorney at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. While at the CFPB, Genessa lead the investigation and resolution of several large enforcement actions related to mobile payments, mortgages, and small-dollar lending. She also worked on the CFPB’s Arbitration Study and Report to Congress released in March 2015. Before joining the CFPB, Genessa worked at Hagens Berman Sobol Shaprio in Seattle where her practice focused on representing plaintiffs in complex financial services class actions. She is a graduate of the University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law. Genessa serves as a middle school math tutor for San Francisco Public Schools and spends her free time enjoying California’s natural beauty and practicing her most recent hobby – yoga – and she’s happy to report she can now perform a headstand without crashing into any fellow practitioners 75 percent of the time.
