THE HONORABLE LORENZO F. GARCIA of New Mexico, began his judicial career in l978 when he was appointed as a state trial judge in one of New Mexico's busiest trial districts. He was subsequently elevated to the New Mexico Court of Appeals and has extensive service on the New Mexico Supreme Court. In 1992, he was appointed to the United States District Court and currently serves as the district's Chief Magistrate Judge Emeritus. Judge Garcia served on the visiting faculty of the National Judicial College of the University of Nevada; was an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law's clinical Law Program; and currently serves as a member of the visiting faculty of the University of South Carolina's National Advocacy Center. He was honored with the State Bar's "Outstanding Judicial Service Award" for "his integrity, intellect, compassion and productivity." Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy presented him with the National Hispanic Bar Association's "Judicial Excellence Award for his “Commitment to the Preservation and Protection of Civil and Constitutional Rights of All Americans.” In 2005, was named by the Albuquerque Bar Association as the "Outstanding Judge," and again, in 2007 was honored by the American Board of Trial Advocates as the "Outstanding Federal Jurist.
