Tariff mitigation has become a strategic issue for global energy and tech companies. In this interactive workshop, attendees will work through a fictional project involving equipment manufactured across multiple jurisdictions, U.S.-origin controlled components, cross-border fabrication, and offshore installation. Participants will evaluate lawful approaches to reducing duty exposure through sourcing strategy, classification, valuation, foreign-trade zones, duty drawback, and logistics redesign—while managing origin risk, sanctions exposure, and export-control constraints.

Topics will include:

  • Evaluating routing decisions: direct shipment vs. U.S. import vs. third-country assembly
  • Distinguishing lawful supply-chain optimization from prohibited circumvention
  • Applying origin, classification, and substantial transformation principles to complex equipment
  • Structuring valuation approaches including first sale, assists, and intercompany pricing
  • Using FTZs, bonded facilities, temporary importation, and drawback programs
  • Managing export-control implications of supply-chain redesign
  • Building cross-functional governance across trade, tax, procurement, engineering, and logistics
  • Presenting mitigation strategies for peer and expert review
