Based on industry demand, ACI is pleased to present its inaugural Women Leaders in Financial Services Law conference on June 15th – 16th in NYC, a forum aimed at promoting woman-to-woman networking and mentorship and facilitating high-level discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing like-minded women in the financial services legal community.

Now more than ever, women are playing an important role in financial services law and as a recently published American Banker article, “What if Lehman Brothers Had Been Lehman Sisters?” notes, women are heavily impacting the discussion on how we can reform banks to better serve society.  Highlighting the women leading the Institute for New York Economic Thinking’s conference in Washington D.C., the article notes their desire to get people thinking creatively about bank reform. The piece contains several noteworthy quotes from the conference including the following from International Monetary Fund head Christine Langarde: “Regulations are not enough. We must move from rule-based behavior to values-based . . . Ethics, as Aristotle taught, are molded from habit.” The article also describes Langarde’s perspective on how putting more women leaders in banking and regulatory agencies could help drive the change to a more ethical culture in banking, featuring her quote”female leadership is more inclusive and probably more risk-averse. What would have happened if Lehman Brothers had been Lehman Sisters?” Additionally, the story quotes Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen and several other important women in the financial industry, showcasing their thoughts on the importance of women taking control of the banking industry. Tailored to empower women in the financial services legal community and to give women the skills necessary for continued success, our Women Leaders in Financial Services Law conference will serve as a unique opportunity to network with and engage in candid discussion with leaders from financial services companies including American Express, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, BNY Mellon, Deutsche Bank AG , JPMorgan Chase & Co., RBC Capital Markets , Wells Fargo, and more. In addition to the networking opportunities and discussions of professional development issues, this is also an opportunity to hear from women leaders at the DOJ and other government agencies about their key priorities vis-à-vis financial services companies.
