Tips for Ensuring a Successful Presentation

Below you will find a list of helpful suggestions and tips. These are compiled from the conference evaluations  we have received from delegates over the last several years.

  • Use the PowerPoint template that has been provided to you. This will ensure that PowerPoint slides are easy to read.

  • Ensure that your presentation addresses the bullet points outlined in the brochure. This is what the delegates will  be expecting to hear about and the basis on which they registered for the conference.
  • Reflect on your personal corporate experiences with both anecdotal and empirical evidence; include disasters as well as successes! Honesty is very highly rated by delegates.
  • Review the conference brochure for potential overlap with your topic. If overlap is a concern, please contact your co-panelists or the conference producer to discuss.
  • Focus on the “how,” not the “what.” Delegates tell us they got the most value receiving practical “how to” information that they can apply immediately within their own organizations.
  • Involve the audience. Prepare quick practical exercises, individually or in a group, to give delegates a hands-on experience.
  • Limit the amount of time you spend giving background on your company and its products/ services (one or two slides at most). This leaves more time to address the main focus on your talk.
  • Do not read from your paper.
  • Anticipate and allow time for a few questions – leave a few minutes at the end of your session to allow audience members to ask questions. If your session has a moderator, consider preparing a few questions prior to your session that he/she can raise during the Q&A.
  • Please bring a copy of your presentation on a flash drive as a backup.
  • If at all possible, attend preceding sessions.
  • Practice – become comfortable with the material and your timing.
