Q. What is CPE?
A: Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is an integral part of the lifelong learning required to provide competent service to the public by CPA’s. CPE credit hour is measured by 50 minutes of participation in a program of learning. CPE is a self-certification process with the completion and reporting of required CPE hours on an annual basis. The reporting deadline is December 31 each year.
Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) must adhere to the continuing education requirements set forth by the State Board of Accountancy of the state/s where a CPA license is held. The requirements for continuing professional education vary from state to state. CPAs are responsible for accurate reporting of the appropriate number of CPE credits earned and must retain appropriate documentation of their participation in learning activities.
Many state licensing boards require that CPAs maintain and improve their skills through continuing professional education (CPE) courses and other opportunities for professional development. The requirements for continuing professional education vary from state to state.
